Locking Feature

Features

  • Cavity (3D Printed): Similar to the one in the Deployment Force Fixture, designed a cavity that molds to the shape of the handle to eliminate any movement that could occur during testing. Incorporated peg features to restrict the handle from any torsional forces. The cavity can be mounted to the base of a tensile tester.

  • Thumb Block (Machined): Holes are drilled into the side of the thumb slide, and the plungers on the thumb block lock into those holes. The extruded cut in the center is so no interference occurs between the part and the thumb slide.

  • Pulley System: Made from machined and 3D parts, the system is attached to the load cell of a tensile tester in order to raise the thumb slide. The pulley system when raising the thumb slide self corrects itself so the thumb slide will only experience a vertical force.

  • Velcro: Ensures the handle remains in contact with the cavity during testing.

Parts including the plungers, screws and wiring were purchased from McMaster-Carr.
